We
are pleased to invite you to a special luncheon meeting with
Michael Sanio, Director of International Alliances, from the
American Society of Civil Engineers.
Mr. Sanio will provide an overview of some of ASCE's
international alliances and activities, including:
(1)
ASCE's efforts worldwide to root out corruption in engineering
and construction;
(2)
ASCE's co-sponsorship of the Pan American Convention of
Engineers to be held Sept 19-22 in Atlanta (www.upadi2006.com);
3)
the ASCE International Roundtable keynote "Investing in
Sustainable Infrastructure Worldwide" by World Bank Vice
President Ms.Kathy Sierra at the ASCE Annual Meeting to be held
Oct 19-21 in Chicago.
Mr. Sanio's responsibilities at ASCE include managing the Task
Committee on Global Principles for Professional Conduct, which
develops principles and guidelines that can be adopted by
engineering societies worldwide to counter bribery, fraud, and
corruption. He also serves on ASCE's Task Committee on
Sustainable Development and is directly involved in capacity
building in Latin America, Pakistan, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and
countries impacted by the Indian Ocean tsunami. In addition, he
is active in the Engineers Forum for Sustainable Development,
the Engineers International Roundtable, and the American Society
of Mechanical Engineers.
Mr. Sanio previously worked for the World Bank/Global
Environment Facility, where he developed and led the private
sector strategy; managed the climate change and transportation
investment program; and negotiated the CEO forum for
international waters. He was Deputy to the President of
WFEO-ComTech; consultant to the UN Environment Program's
Sustainable Alternatives Network; and the lead author for the
World Summit on Sustainable Development Science and Technology
Major Group discussion paper. He also worked for the World
Engineering Partnership for Sustainable Development; and for
Ontario Hydro.
Mr. Sanio has a Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from
Carleton University (Ottawa,Canada) and a Masters from the
University of Texas at Austin.
