In August, the University of Maryland at College Park chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB-UMCP) completed a gravity feed water system project in the southern highlands of Ecuador.  This was the first of a series of projects through which the student chapter hopes to develop lasting relationships in the area.  Mr. David Hill and Mr. Javier F. Ordonez Arizaga will share their experiences working with the Ecuadorian community and UMCP students over the past year.  They will highlight the partnerships established with local engineers, universities, and the water utility in Cuenca, Ecuador, as well as the provincial government of Azuay.  They also intend to discuss potential collaboration with AIDIS on future EWB projects.

Mr. Hill works in water and wastewater design with Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company.  He is a member of the Chesapeake Professional Partners chapter of EWB, the Water for People-DC Committee, AIDIS, and WEF.

Mr. Ordonez is a PhD Candidate in the Project Management Program with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering University of Maryland, College Park.  He is member of the University of Maryland Student chapter of EWB.

Engineers Without Borders is a non-profit organization that partners with disadvantaged communities to improve their quality of life through implementation of environmentally and economically sustainable engineering projects, while developing internationally responsible engineering students.  To learn more about EWB-USA, visit their website at www.ewb-usa.org.
