ARSENIC CONTAMINATION IN WELLS

SANITARY ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES (AIDIS-USA)
AIDIS is co-sponsoring a meeting with the Committee on
Environmental Law of the Association of the Bar of the City of New
York, at which two representatives of the organization “Water for
People” will make a presentation on arsenic contamination in wells
in West Bengal, India. Water for People is an organization that
assists in providing safe drinking water for people all over the
world. The speakers will be Ms. Anne Seeley, Section Chief of
Drinking Water Quality Planning in NYCDEP, who is the chairperson
of the Water for People organization in this area, and Mr. Richard
J. Fahey, senior Associate of the Water Group at Hazen and Sawyer
PC, both of whom recently visited the site in India. The speakers
will discuss the efforts and successes made by their organization
to implement a program to reduce arsenic contamination in the
drinking water for 100 locations in West Bengal, India serving
over 100,000 people. There will be an opportunity for attendees to
ask questions. This should be of great interest to engineers,
scientists, and others who have an interest in Latin American
environmental issues, to learn about Water for People and its
worldwide efforts to provide safe drinking water.

Location: The Association of the Bar of the City of
New York, 42 West 44th Street, Manhattan (between 5th
and 6th Avenues).
