AIDIS-USA in
collaboration with AIDIS-Interamericana and the
Florida
section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA)
(www.fsawwa.org) is organizing one
of a series of international seminars and conferences of interest to Latin
American and Caribbean countries, that will address achieving
improved performance and sustainability of drinking water supplies.
Exorbitant indices of unaccounted-for drinking water are common
throughout the countries in the region, physical and commercial
losses seriously hinder the viability of services, resulting in the
inefficient provision of this basic element which is paramount to
the health and well-being of the population as well as to the
financing of this important sector. This seminar aims to
attack the problem of Unaccounted-for Water, one of the most
significant issues for drinking water suppliers in the Americas.

The
seminar will include technical presentations, workshops,
forums and exhibits, and is aimed at senior system managers and
decision-makers of water
suppliers, product manufacturers, engineering firms, technologists. It will be an ideal
opportunity for utilities
to meet with suppliers of various technologies to discuss specific
unaccounted-for water problems and solutions. The conference
will be conducted in both Spanish and English, with simultaneous
interpretation. Managers will meet together to exchange
experiences.
Created in 1948, AIDIS (Spanish acronym for the Inter American
Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering) brings
together professionals in environmental engineering and public
health including water supply, waste collection and treatment, air
pollution, and toxic waste disposal. In Latin America and the
Caribbean, AIDIS has over 30,000 members in 32 countries.
